RICHBORO, PA--Eight alums representing six sports and five decades were inducted into the Conwell-Egan Catholic Sports Hall of Fame Thursday evening in a ceremony held at the Northampton Valley Country Club.
Katie Atkins 2000 (bowling), Logan Brenker ’12 (track & field), Patrick Henry ’09 (wrestling), Michael Kramer ’82 (football, wrestling, baseball), Jack Lyons ’67 (football), Lisa Mickles ’80 (softball), James Siesser ’73 (football) and Shannon Stricker ’13 (softball) are the newest members of the CEC Sports Hall of Fame.
Also Thursday evening, Molly Milewski ’24 was presented with the CEC Sports HOF Senior Scholar Athlete Award.
Atkins was a three-time All- Philadelphia Catholic League and three-time All-Area selection at CEC. She made PCL bowling history her junior year when she possessed a PCL-record 179 league average. She bowled a 226 game and a 595 series and finished with an overall average of 182, earning Area Bowler of the Year and PCL MVP honors. Upon graduation, she continued her career at Sacred Heart University, where she finished third in the NCAA Championships with a 240 average, including a perfect 300 game and a 738 series.
Brenker was a three-time Philadelphia Catholic League MVP for field events and a four-time All-PCL selection. She was an eight-time (indoor and outdoor) PCL champion in the triple jump, and in the long jump she finished among the top two in the PCL three times, winning the title as a junior. In the District 12 Championships she was a two-time triple jump champion and won five silver medals in the triple and long jumps. Brenker was a three-time State Qualifier and five times placed among the top eight in Pennsylvania in the long and triple jumps. Brenker continued her career at West Chester University.
Henry was a three-time All-Philadelphia Catholic League wrestler and a four-time selection to the All-Area team, compiling a 117-29 record with a CEC-record 86 pins in his injury-riddled career. Following an undefeated freshman season in the PCL Henry placed runner-up at the PA States and ninth at the National Prep Championships. He went on to represent Team USA, placing fifth at the prestigious Amsterdam Tournament in the Netherlands.
Kramer was one of the most successful multi-sport athletes in CEC history, excelling in football, wrestling and baseball. On the gridiron he earned All-Philadelphia Catholic League, All-Area and All-State honors. On the mat he led CEC to the PCL Wrestling and National Prep Tournament Team Championship, twice placing third in the individual PCL Championships. On the diamond he earned team MVP honors as an All-PCL catcher. “Froggy” continued both his football and baseball careers at Widener University.
Lyons was the team captain on what many consider the greatest football team in school history, the 1966 Eagles that were ranked first in Pennsylvania and fifth in the entire nation. Lyons led Egan to a Philadelphia Catholic League Title and to victory over Philadelphia Public League champion Ben Franklin High in the City Championship, gaining a then-record 158 yards rushing. As a freshman he led the Egan freshman team to an undefeated, unscored upon season, the only time in school history.
Mickles was a three-time All-Philadelphia Catholic League selection, leading Conwell to an unprecedented three-straight PCL Titles. As a senior she was named the PCL MVP. A four-year starter at first base, Mickles led the squad in RBI, extra base hits and total bases three times.
Siesser was an All-State and All-Area selection as a defensive back. He began his junior season by intercepting future-NFL standout Bob Grupp, leading Egan to an upset win at Neshaminy. As a senior he compiled eight interceptions, second most in school history. In 1970 he was one of just six sophomores on the squad that won the PCL title over St. James at Temple Stadium.
Stricker was a four-time All-Philadelphia Catholic League shortstop and the PCL MVP, earning All-State honors as a senior. Following an outstanding field hockey season as a sophomore, in which she was the second leading scorer in the area as the team MVP, she earned All-Area softball honors and represented CEC at the prestigious Carpenter Cup Tournament. She batted .550 as a junior, again earning All-Area honors, and batted .444 as a senior and again earned All-Area honors. Stricker continued her career at the University of Scranton, where she earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, graduating with career records for at bats and assists, while finishing among the top 10 Royals in 12 categories, including second in hits (183) and doubles (41) and third in RBI (115).
Milewski is a three-sport standout who ranks fifth in her class academically, is president of the National Honor Society, and a member of the All-Catholic Chamber Choir. On the volleyball court she was twice an All-State setter, compiling over 1,000 career assists. She became CEC’s first-ever All-PCL volleyball selection, earning the award three times after an Honorable Mention as a freshman. She led CEC to three District 12 volleyball Championships. She was a four-year member of the varsity basketball team, serving as team captain as a senior. On the softball diamond she earned All-State honors, leading CEC to its first-ever PIAA State Finals. She is a three-time Carpenter Cup selection and is a two-time All-PCL selection with her senior season just beginning.
